IBD Masterclass 2026's pre-conference day began this morning, Thursday, September 10, at King Khalid University Hospital's Endoscopy Unit, with a hands-on Intestinal Ultrasound (IUS) in IBD workshop — a day ahead of the two-day main masterclass at Crowne Plaza Riyadh RDC.
The workshop was directed by Dr. Mansour Al Tuwaijri and Prof. Nahla Azzam, Treasurer of the Saudi Gastroenterology Association, and opened with a session positioning intestinal ultrasound within the modern IBD monitoring toolbox, alongside clinical indices, biomarkers, and endoscopy.

Dr. Mohanad Al Tayeb and Dr. Yaser Meeralam followed with focused talks on applying IUS to Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis respectively, before all faculty led a hands-on scanning session for attendees.
Dr. Heba Al Farhan, an IBUS-accredited trainer and President of the Kuwaiti Gastroenterology Association, addressed transmural remission as a treatment target and walked through interactive video cases, in a programme that also included a Takeda-sponsored satellite symposium.
The workshop closed with a panel on building an IUS practice and key take-home messages, setting the stage for the main two-day masterclass, which opens Friday under the theme "IBD Care Without Borders: Advancing Multidisciplinary Collaboration."
